Cookie
Policy
How AlterByte (operating under Alter) uses essential cookies for security and optional GA4 analytics after consent.
Session security, CSRF protection, and core site functionality.
Loads only after consent. No ads pixels, no retargeting.
Use the preferences panel above to accept, deny, or reset.
This Cookie Policy explains how AlterByte (operating under the parent company Alter) uses cookies and similar technologies on alterbyte.co.za. We are based in South Africa and deliver our services remotely.
What we use (cookies + storage)
In addition to traditional cookies, we use browser storage (for example localStorage and sessionStorage) for security and preference handling.
- Cookies: small files stored by your browser.
- Local storage: persistent browser storage used for preferences (such as analytics consent).
- Session storage: temporary browser storage cleared when your browser session ends.
Essential cookies & security storage
We use essential cookies and security tokens to keep the site working and protect your account. These cannot be disabled in our interface because they are required to deliver core functionality.
- Authentication/session: to keep you signed in to the client dashboard.
- CSRF protection: to prevent malicious cross-site requests against authenticated sessions.
- Security controls: rate-limiting, abuse prevention, and integrity checks.
Optional analytics (GA4)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate usage (for example page views and which service pages are most helpful). We do not use advertising pixels or behavioural retargeting trackers.
GA4 is only enabled after you click Accept in our cookie banner (or accept via the preferences panel above). If you click Deny, GA4 will not load.
If you opt in to analytics, we may store a pseudonymous identifier in your browser (for example in localStorage or sessionStorage) to help measure sessions and improve event reliability. These identifiers do not include your name or email.
Third-party services
Some features rely on third parties and may involve their own cookies or similar technologies when you interact with them:
- PayFast: used for subscription billing flows.
- Calendly: used for booking strategy calls (when enabled).
Your controls & how to opt out
- Use the Cookie preferences panel above to accept, deny, or reset analytics consent.
- You can clear cookies and site data from your browser settings at any time.
- If you reset consent, the cookie banner will re-appear so you can choose again.
